Visited: winter/spring
Recommendation: This is a convenient free campground with good facilities, a beautiful view and lots of birds. If you are in the area of Barcaldine, it is worth a stop for lunch or, better still overnight.
There isn't much to say about Lloyd Jones Weir. It is about 15 minutes south east of the centre of Barcaldine. There are picnic tables, come dilapidated BBQs and a good toilet block, serviced by the local community. Shady spots are a premium but there is a good amount of space to camp or just visit. The site runs north-south so the sun sets on one side of the weir and creek and rises on the other, making it lovely for photography. I couldn't get too close to the water and the birds but with my Nikon long lens, I could sit on the weir and still shoot them. These are my best images of just one overnight stay.
