The Great Bowerbird (Chlamydera nuchalis) is the species I have seen the most and is relatively common in north Queensland. They don't seem to mind being around humans too much. I actually had one fly into the back of my van and hang around for a while Â
This male Bowerbird goes all out when trying to attract a female. I have seen them collect green, pink and white objects to decorate their bowers but always a single colour. At the primary school in Mount Molloy, there is a Great Bowerbird in the playground and the children are well trained in keeping their pink belongings out of sight!
The Great Bowerbird is found across the north of Australia.
Here is the call of the Great Bowerbird.

I was lucky enough to watch a male Great Bowerbird in Mount Carbine as it desperately tried to entice the female to its bower. It grew more and more frantic as it ran around the area throwing dark berries at the female.
