The family Campephapidae consists of 4 species of Cuckooshrike and smaller species of Triller and Cicadabird. They are unusual passerines with distinctive calls and a real presence where ever they reside. They are one of my favorite families of Australian birds simply because they are so full of character and have stunning plumage.
The Cuckooshrike species in particular always seem to be curious about whatever it is you are doing. They can often be seen peering down at you. The White-bellied and Black-faced Cuckooshrike are locally very common while the Barred and Ground Cuckooshrike really take some finding.
The 2 Triller species are smaller Cuckooshrike and again locally common with obvious calls. I have only seen the more shy Cicadabird once and have yet to get a good photo.
