Recommendation: This is a lovely place to spend some time with varied areas to explore and Powerful Owls to find, if you are lucky!
I knew that there were resident Powerful Owls in the botanic garden and that was my motivation for visting. I went a few times with no luck, even though there were reports of juveniles being active. The gardens are really lovely so it was no great hardship. I really liked that most of the garden seemed to be wild forest with numerous tracks around them.
My first success was to find the Green Catbird, although it wasn't very co-operative.

The first time I found the owl was after a tip from a friend. It was ridiculously high up but I was thrilled to see it. To see it front on, I was standing pretty much right underneath it and I could see it had a fruit bat in its talons.
Surprisingly, the second time I saw it, a few days later, it was in the same spot with another poor dead bat in its talons. This time it did move about a bit so I got some shots of it.
Although there was no sign of the female or juveniles, it was wonderful to see him.
